3rd - 5th Grade Program
The 3 - 5 Grade curriculum provides learning experiences through which each child acquires fundamental skills, abilities, and attitudes needed as a basis for all future learning. Emphasis is on the fundamentals of learning, as well as on the enrichment programs which are essential to the personal growth and development of each student. The reading program is phonetically-based and includes literature, spelling, composition, the development of auditory-visual perception, and the use of reading for meaning and for pleasure. Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Religion are also taught at each grade level. In addition, students have at least one enrichment class each day. These include art, music, computer, library, and physical education. Additional enrichment is provided through guest speakers, assemblies, and field trips throughout the year. A weekly folder system is used in the Lower School to keep parents informed of all assignments and graded work. Students in Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades are required to use a school-supplied student planner. Students is grades 3, 4, and 5 are ability grouped for Math and Reading instruction. Fourth and Fifth graders move between the four teachers on a daily basis to prepare them for the structure of the Prep School program. Grading System Report cards are issued every nine weeks.
